The Last Hurdle
An entertaining evening @ The Prudential Center, Newark N.J. April 9, 2011.
April 14, 2011
The Last Big Hurdle turned out to being a pleasant event, hosted by girls of Main Events and The Prudential Center. They presented 8 bouts for an evening of good entertainment.
The first bout was a 4 rounder welterweights : Shakir Aquel Dunn vs Vinny The Lion O'Brien
1st round Boring, feeling each other out. 1st round goes to Dunn. 2nd round the dance picks up, Vinny trying to load up, not scared of Dunn. Vinny starts to use the jab and straight hard right hands, Dunn getting punished, mouth piece pops out from Dunns' mouth, for a delay for time. 2nd round goes to O'Brien. 3rd round action in center of ring. Both guys throwing bombs. Dunn gets pushed against ropes, but fights on! O'Brien and Dunn give as good as each gets. But, this Vinny “the Lion” O'Brien looks like a young Ray Boom Boom Mancini, twisting his head to try to avoid punches. The Lion uses the basics one two and does the job well. 4th round O'Brien opens with a wild right, both guys are throwing power, Dunn standing but holding getting hit with upper cuts. Dunn’s a tough dude!! Dunn gets point deduction, mouth piece out again. Referee halts fight, Lion wins, Vinny The Lion O'Brien is a marketers dream. Red,white and blue trunks worn by O'Brien shows it all his bravery, patriotism, American style.
The 2nd bout was a little confusing? Jose “Mongoose” “Mangu” Peralta vs Eber Luis Perez 6 rds Jr. welters There was a weight problem here? Peralta pummeled Perez like a boy. Perez gets knocked out!
The third bout was another 6 rds. Josellito Collado vs Rafael Lora featherweights. From the outset you can see that Lora has whiskers. Lora dances but still gets hit. Collado comes on strong. In the 2nd round a head butt opens on Collado eye. Lora wins both rounds. The tempo continues, Collado pounding Lora. Collado win, Lora exits ring pissed off! A close bout?
The next bout was Ray Smith vs Andre Fonfara Polish home town boy @ light heavyweight. Ray Smith came in at 179lbs. But looked a little bit out of shape. Fonfara dominated entire bout till a 4th round straight right KO'd Smith!
The spectacular knock out of the night came in the next bout; 8 round welterweights.
Sadam Ali vs Javier Perez.
The dispatching of Javier Perez was slither for a talented opponent of Sadam caliber and skill, but still Ali was impressive. Javier was moving out of range, somewhat, until a left hook got his attention. Sadam used his skillful jab and then administrated a gigantic left hook. Looked like a classic left hook off a left jab, executed brilliantly. Sadam “World Kid “ Ali is a welterweight to be reckoned with going forward. Third round KO, SWEET!!
Finally!! The Main Event: Home town favorite Polish star Tomasz Adamek vs Kevin McBride.
If this is the test and Last Hurdle of Adamek spirit and heart don't give it a second thought. A fine night it was for Adamek. Exhibiting courage and heart he has , as well as hand speed, lateral movement and a really good defense. Tomasz avoided all McBride’s heavy hits, which were few. McBride came in overweight by 75lbs. 285Lbs. of flab, looked real fat. Tomasz was smart and worked the body, then McBride got a bad gash in the 7th and was deducted a point for holding Adamek. The judges had it scored 119-108, 119-108,and 120-107 all for the Champ Tomasz Adamek. Tomasz is certainly the Polish prince and now onto Poland for success over one of the Kilitschko brothers.
